Bonn - Morocco, which will host the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Marrakech (COP22) vowed, Tuesday in Bonn, to extend the involvement of non-state actors in the fight against climate change.

''We are committed to making interaction with civil society an inclusive process, and to turning non-state actors into real stakeholders in the fight against climate change," chairman of the COP22 steering committee and foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar told MAP, on the sidelines of a meeting with the groups of observers of the United Nations framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Morocco's presidency of the COP aims to help launching and strengthening structural dynamics in the Kingdom and in the whole continent, he stressed, noting that COP 22 is an opportunity to highlight the contribution of the Moroccan civil society and non-state actors, and enable them to connect with other actors internationally.

Morocco aims to help territories and local authorities to boost their action on climate change in consultation with civil society, academia and the private sector, said Mezouar.

Making youth a priority, raising awareness about the issue of climate migration and extending the involvement of cultural actors in fighting climate change are also among the ambitions of the Moroccan presidency of COP 22, he said.
