Rabat - Morocco’s Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the dismantling of a alleged ISIS members  in Beni Mellal, about 182 kilometers south-east of Casablanca.

The minister said that the leader of the four-member cell has alleged links with ISIS.

According to the same source, the newly formed Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ), dismantled a terrorist cell formed of four members who “were at advanced stages of preparation of terrorist attacks in Morocco.”

The Ministry added that the alleged leader of this criminal group had established contacts with the Islamic state leaders to provide logistical support for terrorist acts in the country.

The defendants will be brought before the Public Prosecutor.

In the wake of terrorist attacks that shook Paris on Friday night, Morocco arrested on Saturday a suspected terrorist, who admitted during a hearing session that he “was preparing to join the ranks of the so-called Islamic State, and carry on terrorist acts in Morocco or Europe.”

Morocco's proactive approach in fighting terrorism has proven efficient in thwarting any potential threats.

"Morocco has a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy that includes vigilant security measures, regional and international cooperation, and counter-radicalization policies," the US Department of State said last June.

The British Foreign Office issued a ranking earlier this month placing Morocco among the safest countries worldwide, and the safest country in the MENA region.

The BFO ranking said Morocco has lower risk of terrorist threats than France and Spain. The North African country was placed at lever 3 “average” threat, while France was placed at level 4 where the terrorist risk is “high.”
