Rabat - A new earthquake with magnitude of 4.9 on scale of Richter has shaken the city of Al Hoceima, in northeastern Morocco.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 degrees was recorded Monday afternoon off Al Hoceima, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake occurred at 2.52 pm local time (GMT), according to the same source.
This is the third earthquake that hits the region in the last four days. Last Thursday, a quake with a magnitude of 5.9 on the scale of Richter his was recorded off Nador in the same region.
And in the early hours of Monday, another earthquake of a higher magnitude shook the region of Al Hoceima, Nador, as well as the Spanish enclave of Melilla in northeastern Morocco.
The 6.2 magnitude quake resulted in the death of a child and left four other people injured. So far, Moroccan authorities have not reported on the scale of material damage caused by the tremor.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), this is the seventh felt earthquake in the region in the last 11 hours.
