Rabat - The mayor of Rabat, Morocco’s capital, has begun filing for an investigation into the origins of a medical document that states that he “suffers from a mental disorder.”
The document, which has been widely shared on social media, has been “backed and promoted” by members of the Party of Authenticity and Modernity, an opposition party within Rabat’s city council, which is dominated by the Party of Justice and Development (PJD).
In Mohammed Siddiqui’s interview with pjd.ma - the Justice and Development Party’s official news website - he stressed that he would not give up his right to justice. He added that he would soon refer the document to the courts to uncover the truth about who stands behind this “targeted attack against his personal reputation and the reputation of the city of Rabat.”
According to the rumors spread on social media, Rabat Mayor had allegedly submitted a document to Reddal, Rabat’s utilities’ provider to prove his inability to work with the company.
"I categorically deny that I have submitted a certificate of this kind to Redal," Siddiqui said, speaking of the company responsible for cleaning and distributing potable water to the Rabat and Sale area since 1999. "I also categorically deny that I have visited a psychiatrist in my life since I was born until now."
In his interview, Siddiqui raised questions about the authors of the document. He asked whether the PAM councilors themselves had crated it or if a third party had fabricated it and then provided it to the them.
"How did this topic enter into the discussions Rabat’s city council?" he asked. “If [the councilors] had arguments or the ability to back them up then they should present them openly, but to put the medical document into the agenda of the February session of the city council means only one thing: to discredit me and the city of Rabat.”
