Five Unions Call for National March to Protest Government’s Policy in Social dialogue

In a joint statement read at a press conference, the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), the Democratic Labour Confederation (CDT), the General Union of Morocco's Workers (UGTM), the Democratic Labour Federation (FDT) and the National Union for Higher Education (SNES) said that the march is part of a program that extends over three months (April, May and June) to protest against "the unpopular and undemocratic policies of the government."

The five unions have also decided to jointly celebrate the festivities of the 1st of May to better express the concerns of unions and workers about the social, political and national situation.

The leaders of these unions should meet later to fix the steps of the joint program for the next three months.

This new initiative aims at denouncing "the irresponsible" actions of the government in its treatment of social issues, the joint statement said.

The government "continues to ignore the social crisis in Morocco and particularly the phenomenon of unemployment, which is a time bomb in the country," they pointed out, citing social exclusion, poverty expansion, the decreasing purchasing power of citizens and social and spatial inequalities.
