Rabat - A new video produced by the Consulate General of the United States in Casablanca explains the process for Moroccans to apply for a visa to the Western country completely in Darija, Morocco’s dialect of Arabic.
The Consulate produced the educational video - posted by YouTube user Simo Benbachir on Thursday - to facilitate the use of the online visa application process for Moroccans.
The video explains the process to access a US nonimmigrant visa application online and the basic steps involved in scheduling and preparing for an interview.. In addition to being entirely in Darija, it is captioned for the hearing impaired.
The launch event, held on Thursday in Dar America in Casablanca, was attended by Alden Green, the head of visa division of the Consulate, and Andy Halus, a public affairs advisor. The latter said: "One of our goals is to encourage young Moroccans to study in the United States and also to promote tourism.
Tourism is an important economic factor in Morocco and the United States. The more Moroccan tourists in the US, the more American tourists will come here, the former being the perfect ambassadors for Morocco."
